Winning. Losing. Two of the most popular trending topics to date on Twitter. As an active twitter user, I slowly grew tired of the TV and internet celebrity with witty comebacks and catch frazes by the name of Charlie Sheen. Charlie Sheen was leading role in the highly rated TV show Two And a Half Men. He was fired from his leading role as a result of his eratic behavior and from that point on, his life began to take a complete turn. He used excessive amounts of cocaine and he lost custody of his kids who were baby sat by his porn star friends. Most popularly, Charlie Sheen caused great attention to himself by stating a fad called "Winning". Winning is the act of triumphing over studio executives, famous fathers, and jerky show-runners, who then have no choice but to "lay down with their ugly wives and their ugly children and just look at their loser lives". Within his winning lifestyle, there are multiple vocabulary words that go along with the stupidity of his lifestyle. For example, he made up words such as Bi-winning which is a term that can be used to lighten the mood when asked about mental illness. Or even the term Tiger Blood which means the fluid that circulates in the principal vascular system of the star of Two and a Half Men, occasionally spiked by prescription drugs, cocaine, and erectile dysfunction pills. Such absurd words and statements like these that Sheen made up caused a huge rant in TV, and especially the internet. Charlie Sheen has landed a spotlight on TVs hottest gossip resource TMZ. Overall, Charlie Sheens health might be faltering but his hype from the "Winning" epidemic is slowly putting him back in the limelight and getting him more shine thatn ever.

Youtube Analysis
Within the Dove commercial, I noticed the model sitting in the chair physically transitioning. As she sits in the chair, the lighting changes in the setting, they apply tons of make up on her and her face gets digitally altered.
The beginning of the commercial starts off in a room setting with lighting, backdrop and a model in a chair. By the end of the commercial, the setting is a billboard outside.
The model's facial expression changed throughout the commercial. In the beginning she looks very down and not enthused at all. By the end of the commercial her facial expression looks fierce and full of confidence and attitude.
In my opinion I believe that the message is coming from the models who feel as if their beauty is portrayed incorrectly. Their beauty is enhanced to a point where they can't even recognize themselves.

In Exit Through the Gift Shop, reclusive street artist Banksy tells the story of Thierry Guetta, a videographer who sets out to capture the world of street art. Guetta became a well-known personality in the underground scene, "a world without any personalities," and served as a diarist for the movement. He parlayed his access, built on his reputation for trustworthiness, into meeting "the prize, which was the street artist Banksy — the uber-anonymous person in a world full of anonymous people.Banksy does not give interviews, so producer Jaimie D'Cruz joins NPR's Lynn Neary on his behalf. "Thierry," explains D'Cruz, "was obsessed by filming everything in his path." Guetta was related to a street artist, and through that connection he became embedded in the graffiti world. Street Art
Since a very young age, I always had a peculiar interest in Street Art. In my opinion, street is a form of expression, just line any other form of art.The only difference of this form of art is that it is illegal. Most street art is posted or drawn on public or city buildings and other infrastructures. In the film, such street artists like Banksy plastered photos of his work on billboards, highway signs and many other forbidden places. In essence I admire such work because I don't have the guts to do it myself!
In the film, I view Mr.Brainwash to be a very odd individual. In my perspective, he is not a true artist in the eyes of other artists who have been trained in their field and know the ins and outs of Street Art. Mr. Brainwash sort of just puts slight twists to formally made art pieces. In another light, I feel anytime a person creatively expresses himself on any media, its considered artistry. At the same time, I feel in order to be a true artist yo must NOT be ignorant to techniques and be trained in your field, because if nt, you're just a fool.
Banksy played a major role in the film and overall, he was the star of it. I believe Banksy was a great inspiration to Mr. Brainwash and inspired him to venture out on his own. I believe Banksy continued to be involved in Mr. Brainwash's film because it was out of the ordinary and pretty captivating, despite its weirdness. Banksy's debacle was pretty out there. In a sense I feel as if it was a little extreme but, I feel that if someone wants to make a statement, they have to by all means as long as its not hurting anyone.
Guetta's art show was a complete surprise to me. I honestly did not believe that he would be able to pull off such a huge show without any experience at all in art shows in the first place. He gained all the hype and interest by basically exploiting established artists. He had a multitude of art and he had a great showing. I think his down fall was the way he went about doing the event. He should have gained a genuine audience instead of using the other street artists to co-sign his work.
Guetta's followers were basically hype beasts to me. They wanted to see what was hot and be apart of something that was buzzing in the streets and the media. After seeing this documentary, I think his followers will realize the lack of Guetta actually has as a street artist.

For instance, Mr. Brainwash hung out with all those street artists, learned a few tricks, and went on his way to creating his on street art.
To the art world, I'm am sure they feel insulted. Artists have a great feeling towards having an actual respect for art itself and creating pieces of meaning and depth, unlike Mr. Brainwash did.
Overall, the film was really good and I enjoyed it. I could relate a lot to how Mr. Brainwash was perceived. As a designer, most new designers are looked down upon because they have no experience, but coming from a young designer, I believe there are no rules. On the other hand, I fully understand that in order to be a successful designer, I must educate myself about the ins and outs of my craft.

Films
Watching movies is one of my favorite past times. I think films are a great potrayal of fictional and even real life situations people have to deal with. One of my all time favorite films would have to be Juice. In this movie characters Bishop (Tupac Shakur), Q (Omar Epps), Raheemm (Khalil Kain), and Steel (Jermaine Hopkins)are a group of high school friends who deal with the pressures of inner city gang violence and robbery. Bishop, who I consider the trouble maker of the crew, grows tired of being robbed and not being able to defend him self just by fighting. He goes to the extreme of getting his hands on a gun one day. By having a gun in his possession Bishop feels in control, fearless, and powerful. This power gets to Bishop's head and soon turns on his friends because he feels overly supreme.
Bishop really loses it one night after a DJ competition gig Q had participated in. He wanted rob a local corner store but all of the crew wasn't down for the cause. Since all the guys didn't back him up, he felt betrayed. He took it upon himself to shoot his friends out of fear that they would snitch on him for robbing the corner store and shooting the owner.
This film never fails to leave me in suspense and I hope we get to view films as such in class that will inspire us students a create written essays that we can relate to and have vivid examples from.

Audio Essays
Project two is by far my favorite project. It was very cool to beable to express my own thoughts through audio and to see how the method of verbally speaking is more effective than just reading a paper, in my perspective. The audio essay was my favorite part of the project. I was given the chance to implement my own culture into a my audio essay by adding my favorite African hits. This project has been a learning experience for me also. I learned a lot more concreate facts about the corrupt individual I chose to write about, Charles Taylor. I enjoyed participating in listening to my clasmates audio essays and I hope they get an opportunity to view mine also.
As a result of experimenting with Audacity, I believe teachers should use this format of speech and communication more frequently. I am very familiar with Audacity as is and I believe using such a phenomenal program will continue to push writing and literature to more innovative heights. This project was a success, in my opinion and I hope we get to partake in more.

Profile Ideas
Personally, I enjoy writing about other people, their experiences and how they affect me or the world around me. Learning about someone's life story or daily occupation sparks my interest greatly. I believe the more you know about a person and the more you educate yourself about anothers life, you can view others in another light.
For example, I would really like to do a profile about Charles Taylor, a former tyrant who controlled the country of Liberia in West Africa. I am interested in writing about this man because he was the cause of destruction and tyranny in Liberia, my parent's native country. He caused the loss of a multitude of innocent lives and is still being trialed to this date. He recently was featured in the N.Y Times about his trial in Europe. I would like to know more about his prosecution and how the court system is going about bringing closure to Liberia and their plans for Charles Taylor throughtout his trial.
Also, I would like to do a profile on well known fashion designer, photographer, designer and party planner "Va$tie Kola". Vashtie has been a role model to me for the longest and she inspires me everyday to continue persuing my dreams of being a designer. I know so much about her accolades and achievement but there is so much more I do notknow about her as an artist. I want to dig a little deeper and figure out how she went about achieving her goals.
Another individual that has caught my eye is African/ European pop star Jessy Matador. He is a celebrity icon in the international spectrum. As a member is African Pride dance group, I always suggest to dance to his up beat and catchy music during performances. They cool thing about his music is, he doesn't speak a lick of English! Yet and still, I am attracted to his music. Growing up in an African household has given me the ability to hear music and decipher the quality not by its worlds but by the beat and how it makes me feel. I only speak English and growing up listening to African music in multiple dialects has always been appealing to me. I want to know how Matador can gain such a fan base from people who can't even understand his language!

What I Want to Learn...
Writing has always been a personal favorite of mine but when it comes to professional documents, I lack skill and I would like to know how to write more formally. For example, when I apply to jobs online sometimes they ask for a "Cover Letter". I have yet to figure out what that is but I'm tired of not being able to apply to certain jobs because of my lack of experience in formal writing.
As a fashion designer, I also e-mail a lot of musicians about collaborating with them and trying introduce my clothing to them. I have no idea to word such an e-mail to top- notch individuals so I basically free-write and address a specific idea. I also have had trouble where I work with artists and they do not follow certain guidelines that I desired. I would like to learn how to format a contract to protect myself, my designs, and keep a professional bond between me and my customers.

“Mountain Music “ was an interesting essay about a a guy named Sanders who takes his teenage son Jesse on a hiking trip through the mountains. Sanders prepares such a trip for his son and himself for the sole purpose of finding out why they constantly argue with one another. The trip was going well, up until the point where they both began to argue about where they desired to sleep one night: on the snow or on dirt. Jesse states “you always ruin everything” to his dad. By saying this, I think Jesse was simply upset because his dad always “broods” him and is reluctant to let him get his way. He also expresses further on in the story that he feels as if his father thinks negatively towards all the things he enjoys and also the world around him. From discovering this, I believe Sanders is now aware that he shouldn't think so negatively towards the outside world and embraces it instead of rejecting it.
“"Once Upon a Time in a Tent” was also a very peculiar essay about a guy named Tim who becomes heartbroken and goes to an odd extreme to deal with his grief. The narrator of this story decides in order to get rid of his pain of his girlfriend dumping him, he must go about living in a tent in the backyard of his actual home. By doing this, Tim is exposed to the delight of adventure and seeking out thrills in life. Soon enough, he ends up traveling to Europe and sees the world in a whole new perspective and meets interesting individuals along the way. He eventually falls in love with a beautiful girl named Heidi who understands him and indulges in similar adventures with him. He also finds contentment in his career.

Corrupt Cops
By listening to the “ A Right to Remain Silent” Act II segment, I got an in depth look on the corruption that goes on in the police department and lawn enforcement in general. I was shocked that some of my nightmares of cops doing acts of corruption really were not just scary dreams in my mind, yet the realities of innocent individuals.
During the story, Officer Schoolcraft is introduced as an officer in the force who does not agree with the way officers in his precinct get their “numbers” up, or statistics as a cop. Out of curiosity, he decided to take it upon himself to carry around a tape recorder to see how much corruption he could document within his precinct. By Schoolcraft doing this, I do not consider him a trouble maker. Honestly, I considered him to be more like a researcher trying to figure the intentions of officers and to prove that some officers legitimately do not care for the common good of citizens, but only for their ranking and the longevity of their jobs as cops.
Throughout his recordings, Officer Schoolcraft picks up stories of officers committing wrong doings within the community. For example, he discovered that the officers ordered to have all Halloween travelers who traveled in large amounts to be stopped, hand cuffed and arrested to “clear the streets”. Technically, committing such an act is considered unlawful and illegal arrest. This is also a form a of “kidnapping”, in a sense.
Officer Schoolcraft is very brave. He went out of his way by putting his job at steak just to get an in depth look of his occupation. In no way shape or form do I feel as if he was stupid for doing some snooping. I feel it was worth while because now we have factual evidence of the negative side of the police force. His curiosity brought a better sense of the reality of the police force and how it always isn’t always “perfect”.
By spying on his fellow officers, I honestly believe Officer Schoolcraft was not doing his job as an officer, but doing his job as a concerned citizen looking out for the well-being of his community. In my opinion, when someone challenges the status quo, they are purposely going against the norm and are not concerned of how they are perceived in the eyes of others. I honestly would not have went about snooping on my fellow officers any differently than Officer Schoolcraft did. When the situation got tough, I would have also “called in sick”. I believe bravery conquers a lot and standing up against what is morally wrong is more important that a ranking in the world or a reputation.

Facebook
Facebook is an interactive website that allows its users to post and view pictures, upload videos, posts status about numerous things and also be in the “know”. Personally, I use Facebook to network, stay connected, and even sometimes just to be nosey. I believe Facebook is a great site with many attributes but also has its downsides.
Facebook can be a source of vital information, but in some cases “too much information”. For example, one of my Facebook friends repeatedly posts pictures of herself in limited amounts of clothing just to get 100+ “likes” on her photos. Certainly, after a week of my updates being flooded with her photos, I deleted her as a friend, but I also realized girls do such acts on Facebook for a specific reason. Low self esteem that is. Wouldn’t you feel better about yourself if 100+ people approved of your “hotness” ? Maybe, or maybe not but in some cases, some people need public approval to feel good about themselves. Furthermore, one of my facebook friends posted a status on Facebook talking about how she hates men and wishes they never were created. After viewing such a harsh post, out of curiosity I go to her profile and long and behold she was “in a relationship” with another female. Not only was this a shocker that I have known this person all my life, but she also had pictures of them making out to prove it! Facebook exposes more to the public than to my liking; in my opinion, the best way to use such a website is to use it discreetly.
In a sense, I believe Facebook should be monitored. To be more specific, there was a movement going on Facebook where everyone was posting pictures their favorite cartoon character as their profile picture in efforts to support a charity for children. In reality, an online molester started the movement on the internet. Unfortunate happenings dealing with misconceived "positive movements" happen often on the internet. For such a event to occur says a lot about the public mindset. There is less and less interest in researching information and figuring out if all the things that we read are factual.
On a lighter note, Facebook can be used from a positive stand point in multiples ways. For example, I post updates for upcoming fashion shows, photo shoots and new fashion trends to publicize my clothing line, Guwala Da Nele: "Beautiful and Strong". Facebook gives me the ability to build up a following and interest in my African inspired garments more than the old school method of "word of mouth" would. Because of Facebook, my clothing line is growing and developing beautifully. Even though Guwala Da Nele is in its beginning stages, the fact that people are fond of my clothing and there are people in the world that see the uniqueness in my dream and ambitions is amazing.

Facebook exposes more to the public than to my liking; in my opinion, the best way to use such a website is to use it discreetly.
In a sense, I believe Facebook should be monitored. To be more specific, there was a movement going on Facebook where everyone was posting pictures their favorite cartoon character as their profile picture in efforts to support a charity for children. In reality, an online molester started the movement on the internet. Unfortunate happenings dealing with misconceived "positive movements" happen often on the internet. For such a event to occur says a lot about the public mindset. There is less and less interest in researching information and figuring out if all the things that we read are factual.
On a lighter note, Facebook can be used from a positive stand point in multiples ways. For example, I post updates for upcoming fashion shows, photo shoots and new fashion trends to publicize my clothing line, Guwala Da Nele: "Beautiful and Strong". Facebook gives me the ability to build up a following and interest in my African inspired garments more than the old school method of "word of mouth" would. Because of Facebook, my clothing line is growing and developing beautifully. Even though Guwala Da Nele is in its beginning stages, the fact that people are fond of my clothing and there are people in the world that see the uniqueness in my dream and ambitions is amazing.

Truth & Causing Trouble
In College Writing I, my class was assigned to write about truth and causing trouble. We had to describe the meaning of each, their risks, their rewards and provide examples of them. Trying to come up with different examples to provide an explanation for the different aspects of truth was pretty tricky.
When I wrote about truth, I spoke about the different perspectives that it embodies. Truth can be spoken, thought out or lived out through everyday life. The results of speaking the truth can be negative and positive. I gave an example about how doctors are obliged to tell their patients the truth about their physical health. If a doctor neglects to give an accurate diagnosis, they are subject to be sued for malpractice. This could also result in bad health of the patient due to their unawareness of a serious condition they were in the doctor neglected to tell them about. Overall I enjoyed talking about truth and how it effects our lives.
Writing about causing trouble was also very interesting. I wrote that causing trouble can be played out in a positive manner and a negative one also. I spoke about Rosa Parks and how she "caused trouble" by refusing to sit in the back of the bus like all African- Americans were forced to do during the Civil Rights movement. By her doing such an act of courage, she started a movement that motivated other African- Americans to stand up for their rights and to not feed into the pressures of the unlawful government. Causing trouble can bring about great change in the world but can ruin it in some cases also.
These two topics got my creative juices flowing and they were fun to write about. I'm very excited about this course and ready to continue to tackle all of my writing endeavors one by one.
